Yui Hirasawa (平沢唯) is the main protagonist of the manga and anime series K-On!. She is depicted as a clumsy, yet optimistic and naturally talented musician, being the lead guitarist and vocalist for the Light Music Club.
At one point, fans of the character would search her name on Yahoo Japan, only to be greeted with a graphic image of a finger with an open wound bleeding onto a paper towel.
The original photo was hosted on a website called art12.photozou.jp during the year 2012. The site lacked strict safety rules or content moderation, allowing users to post graphic content such as gore and other explicit images.
Links to the images hosted on this site would end up appearing on search engines, leading to internet trolls abusing this loophole to manipulate search results. Users would often name their files after popular characters to trick people into clicking on them. By naming a gore image after Yui Hirasawa, it would appear whenever fans looked her up. This same trick was used for other K-On! characters, such as the bassist Mio Akiyama for example. Thus, fans of K-On! and other anime would search the names of their favorite characters on Yahoo, clicking links and expecting fan art, only to instead be greeted with shock images.
Must Not Search wiki listed any possible shock images related to Yui Hirasawa, including the names of Invasion Squid Girl.jpg, Girl.jpg, Nyameron.jpg, DSCN2401.JPG, 019.jpg, Viploader2d256460.gif, zzzzz.JPG, 297.jpg, 298.JPG, and vip.bmp. Interestingly, the wiki also noted that an image of a person with their head removed (zzzzz.JPG) came from this website along with Rotten.com and 5ch.[1]
