Integuments of Shrek (stylized as I.N.T.E.G.U.M.E.N.T.S. of Shrek) is a screamer game created by AnonymaPizza, Lova3D Imouto, and Ods25 in 2014.

Gameplay

The Encounter

The player spawns on the rooftop of a random, apartment-style building in the dead of night. A static radio transmission, a roof hatch, and nothing but the eerie, deafening sound of wind. The player can simply exit through the roof hatch, which looks like a carved hole but turns out to be a slide instead of a regular exit. Inside, "missing" Shrek print-up notices can be found every floor of the building, making them impossible to ignore. Take the flight of stairs and leave this building as soon as possible.

Outside, a strange path leads into the unknown. Soon, they encounter Shrek, who appears extremely thin and stripped down to nothing but a scrap of black clothing; like a mere shell of his former self. He turns to stare at the player, pauses briefly, and then, in sheer disgust, teleports them into a bottomless pit of "onions".

Shrek Balloon

It all burns down.

Waking up in his own cabin, the player realizes it was all just a nightmare. He lives in the middle of nowhere still, so he steps outside to explore the surrounding hills in search of anything interesting.

Eventually, he finds an oversized Shrek balloon, its strings anchored to a small apartment building, and a locked door. Making contact with the balloon distorts Shrek's face, triggering an internal fire explosion and plays a beeping sound that mimics a heartbeat in a rhythmic loop. This event unlocks a previously inaccessible door in the burning apartment building. Inside, the player will find a door leading to the next area.

Once entered, the screen turns completely black and the beeping stops. After a brief moment of suspense, a flashing image of Shrek appears alongside an extremely loud, distorted "HELLO THERE." Following the screamer, a pair of tategaki Japanese text briefly displays on screen translating to "Shrek is love, Shrek is life."

The End (almost)

A screenshot of the LSD: Dream Emulator-esque level.

The game finally reveals where the apartment door leads, spawning the player into an area that mirrors the textures, aesthetic and ambience of LSD: Dream Emulator. This environment quickly teleports them to yet another location: back at the top of a random building. The player is Stripped of all choices here. He cannot exit through the door or explore the surroundings, leaving them stuck here forever.

Left with no other choice, the player must use a platform to jump over the building; this seemingly fatal jump triggers yet another black screen. A poorly drawn blood splatter stains the darkness, followed by a credit sequence, and finally, a scene of 3d-modeled Shreks dancing in celebration of the player's death.

Trivia

  • The radio transmission includes a incredibly long series of numbers. Decoding these digits through a combination of letters and an A1Z26 cipher; the code is "y907vhk". After all, it was a dead Pastebin link.[1]
  • At the start of the game, The Monkees' version of "I'm a Believer" (famous from Shrek) plays in the background.
